Chris Wilder on Boxing Day

Manager Chris Wilder was naturally disappointed to lose to Plymouth on Boxing Day but will now look for his side to get back to winning ways as they welcome Scunthorpe on Sunday. The U’s lost 3-2 at home to Plymouth yesterday and when his side pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 the United boss thought they might still have time to get a positive result:

“I never thought we were dead and buried and when we went to 3-2 I turned round and said we have five or six minutes here and can get something” he told Yellow Player. “We just needed to pick the right pass out and not get overexcited, but really the damage was done with half an hour to go when we were on top and on the front foot and searching for a winner, but conceded two poor goals.”

The U’s get a chance to bounce back straight away as promotion rivals Scunthorpe visit the Kassam Stadium.

“Big games are coming thick and fast; we have Newport as well on New Year’s Day” Chris said. “We won’t get too down about today’s result. We have 38 points after 22 games and if you replicate that in the second half of the season you are going to be very close to going up. As I have always said, we take any disappointments and we move on. We had had a decent little run going and that has gone so we have to start another. But as results elsewhere showed today it is still very tight and we are still in the fight and still in the hunt.”
