Whing and Constable on Cheltenham

Players reactions to last night's win

After Tuesday night’s cup win at Cheltenham, Yellow Player caught up with Andy Whing and James Constable.

Whing was making his first appearance of the season after a lengthy spell out with injury, and he told us about his return to the side:

“I felt really good out there. I wasn’t expecting to be on the bench tonight but the injuries we’ve got forced the gaffer’s hand. I’m more than happy to be on the bench and getting involved with the lads and to get a half-hour under my belt.

“I was only on for half an hour so I thought I might as well get the most out of it that I can and the lads eased me back into it. They were superb. Hopefully I can crack on now.”

Andy told us how the players have reacted to the spate of injuries and what last night’s result meant to the team:

“The last couple of games the lads have picked themselves up fantastically well and they’ve helped each other really well. That showed today when we were 4-2 up and the lads were digging in to not concede any more and to win the game. It was a really important game for us to win just to keep ticking over. Slowly the confidence is coming back.”

James Constable scored his first goal of the campaign last night and was buzzing after the game. He told us:

“It was nice to get back in the starting eleven.  It’s been a tough couple of weeks for me not having been playing and I was desperate to get back in there and show what I can do and it was nice to get on the scoresheet as well.”

“It was a nice finish. I’ve been scoring them in training and it’s nice to go out there in a proper match and get the goal.

“Since I’ve been here we haven’t had too many cup runs to talk about and hopefully if we can pick up results in the cup competitions we can go into the league and do the same.”
