"They were unbelievable" says striker
Striker James Constable was at the heart of a fine team performance at Wycombe on Saturday. Constable lashed home an early opener, his 82nd goal for the club, and then led the line superbly as United romped to an impressive victory at Adams Park. The talismanic front-man was quick to praise the efforts of the entire team afterwards:
“I think it needed a great team performance after Tuesday night” he told Yellow Player. “We were disappointed not to get anything out of that so it was important that we put in a better performance and took our chances. It was nice to get that first goal, and I think it was one of the better goals we’ve scored. We worked it from the back, Tommy Craddock did brilliantly to set it up and it was nice to get it on target. The conditions didn’t favour the keeper too much and I was delighted to see it go in.”
Constable’s partnership with Tom Craddock is starting to blossom, and is something that James believes can develop even further:
“We work on it a lot through the week and we seem to be getting a good understanding going. I know where Tommy is going to be and he does brilliantly for me. He keeps me in the right positions and it’s working really well.”
The centre-forward was at the centre of the action at both ends, conceding the penalty which gave the home side hope after United had just opened up a 2-0 lead:
“I didn’t think it was a penalty but after conceding it they had five minutes or so and we needed to show the grit and to dig in and get the blocks in. Then Johnny Mullins popped up with the third goal to give us a bit of breathing space.”
It was a good afternoon for all involved and James was quick to praise the role that the 1,833 away fans played in the win:
“They were unbelievable. It almost makes it like a home game for us. They were brilliant and it’s good to repay them with a good performance.”
