Oxford United Women Support Her Game Too

U's proud to dedicate Billericay Town game to tackle sexist abuse

4 December 2023

Oxford United Women are proud to dedicate our upcoming fixture against Billericay Town Women on Sunday 17th December to the Her Game Too campaign tackling sexist abuse within football.

The U’s will take part in a double header with Oxford City as four clubs come together to celebrate Women’s Football in Oxfordshire.

Oxford City Women face Ascot Town Women at 11AM, before the U’s take to Court Place Farm in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division at 2PM.

Fans can buy a ticket for the OUWFC game online HERE or on the gate, or a ticket for both games for just £10 available on the gate.

#HerGameToo was founded back in 2021 by 12 female supporters passionate about eradicating sexism in the football industry.

The aim is to ensure all girls and women, no matter their age, can feel confident and safe sharing their opinion about football both in stadiums and online without fear of sexist abuse. #HerGameToo also actively supports girls’ football at grassroots through fundraising and kit distribution.

For that reason, we will be offering free entry to any girl wearing their grassroots kit, and half price entry for their accompanying adult, at Court Place Farm on the day.

There will be plenty of activities going on at Court Place Farm including face painting, Christmas themed activities, a signed shirt auction, a visit from Olivia the Ox, raffle prizes and much more as the U’s look to make it five wins in a row at home.

Her Game Too focuses on three ways that you can help to tackle sexist abuse at the football:

Reporting
Reporting helps to create a culture of zero tolerance for sexist behaviour, which can lead to a more inclusive and respectful environment for everyone.

Volunteer
By volunteering, you can help them in a variety of ways, from raising awareness through social media to organising events and campaigns in your community.

Become a Patron
Becoming a patron for Her Game Too is a great way to support their efforts to donate kit and equipment to girls who are striving to progress in sports.

Having the partnership with #HerGameToo ensures that Oxford United Women remains committed to addressing the needs of its female players, fans, and staff and raises the profile of some of the challenges girls and women still face today.

Oxford United’s Her Game Too Ambassador, Grace Bailey, told us:

“We have had a fantastic #HerGameToo fixture for the men against Exeter already this season, so we are delighted to support the Women’s Team as well. It’s about helping women and girls feel welcome and safe in football, whether that be playing, watching or working.

“Dedicating this game to the campaign is very important to show that the club is behind both the Men’s and Women’s side. It’s another space for young girls and women to get along to games, feel safe and be inspired and so it’s really special.”

Women’s General Manager Gemma Sims said:

“We had a fantastic #HerGameToo fixture at Court Place Farm last year and we can’t wait to welcome everyone again.

“It’s such an important message and we’ve created an incredibly safe atmosphere at Court Place Farm for women and girls in Oxfordshire to come and be inspired by our exciting young side.”
