REACTION Oxford United Women Put Thirteen Past Liskeard

The U’s enter the Third Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup

5 December 2022

Oxford United Women sailed to a comfortable victory over Liskeard Athletic in the Second Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup yesterday.

The U’s won 13-0 on the road in emphatic style, with goals coming from all over the pitch. Top-scorer Carly Johns bagged her first hat-trick of the season, with Sarah King also netting her first two goals of the season.

Manager Liam Gilbert told us

“First of all, fair play to Liskeard who didn’t stop going. There’s a big difference between the leagues and their attitude and application was a credit to the club. We’ve asked our players to be professional in everything that they do, and they did that. The way we were patient and moved the ball with a number of different pictures coming out was brilliant.”

“If we are looking back to our last performance against MK, I think this puts it right. We’ve spoken about it this weekend and we played our style of football because I don’t think we were ourselves that day. There were some outstanding goals and it will give the girls a world of confidence and the fact that we had a number of different scorers is fantastic for the group moving forward.”

Captain for the day Riva Casley was proud of the performance, despite the gap in League position

“It’s a nice feeling to come away from such a long trip with a win. It’s not easy to come to a surface and a ground like this and you always talk about the underdogs in the FA Cup. We’ve put in a performance that is worthy of going into the next round and really grafted hard.”

“It could be easy to slack off when you go ahead like we did but credit to every player, we all put a shift in and that’s hard on grass and with the travel, so it’s a great feeling to come away with a convincing win.”

The U’s now look ahead to the Third Round of the WFA Cup straight away, as they welcome Plymouth Argyle Women to Court Place Farm this Sunday, the 11th of December.

It’s the last home game of the season for Oxford United Women, so come down to Court Place Farm and support the team for one last time in 2022.
