Oxford United Women travel to Bridgwater

7 April 2022

With Oxford United Women completing their home programme undefeated against Keynsham Town last Sunday, they travel to Bridgwater United this weekend for the first of five successive away games to end the season.

Bridgwater sit fourth in the table, seven points adrift of United having played a game more. United are third, three points beneath Southampton and four behind leaders Ipswich Town, both of which have relatively straightforward home fixtures this Sunday. This means that anything but an Oxford victory most likely means an end to their promotion challenge.

Oxford have already beaten Bridgwater twice this season, at home in both the league and the League Cup, but manager Liam Gilbert is taking nothing for granted. “There’s been a good buzz about the place in training this week and we’re going to Bridgwater with a positive attitude. We will try to get the three points but we know it’s a tough place to go. We know that we need to go there and win and that’s what we’ll hopefully do.”

Defender Gemma Sims added: “We want to finish the season on a high, whether we win the league or not. So we’re going out there and we’re going to compete and try to get maximum points. We excel at the tough games and that’s when we play our best football.”

The game kicks off at 2pm on Sunday 10th April at Fairfax Park, Bath Road, Bridgwater, Somerset TA6 4TZ.
