PREVIEW Oxford United Women v Gillingham Women

Women get set for first game of the National League season

12 August 2021

Oxford United Women begin their Women’s National League campaign this Sunday (2pm KO) when they welcome Gillingham to Court Place Farm.

The two sides also met on the opening day of last season with the U’s running out 1-0 winners thanks to a Carly Johns goal.

TEAM NEWS

Looking ahead to the season opener United boss Liam Gilbert said: “We want to push ourselves as high up as we can.

“It’s the trend we have set and it’s something I expect us to carry on.

“I have been really happy. We have brought in quite a few new players and they’ve bought into what we want to do.”

With seven new signings adding to an already strong squad Gilbert admits he has good selection problems ahead of Sunday.

“I haven’t got a clue who I am going to start at the weekend, lucky me, lucky us.”
