Oxford United Women may have seen their league season curtailed, but they return to action this weekend in the FA Cup second round as they travel to Cardiff City Ladies on Sunday (2pm).
After a long lay-off due to lockdown restrictions Liam Gilbert’s team returned to training this week with a fully fit squad. Weekly fitness sessions as well as individual fitness plans have kept the players in fine condition and despite an intense week of return to play training United have no fresh injury concerns.
“It will be a tough game” Liam told us at training last night. “It would have been anyway - we have played Cardiff a few times in the last few seasons and only beaten them once, although that was this season. But in the current circumstances it is that little bit tougher. The season ended and we have only been able to get back together and train a couple of times. It has been brilliant to all be able to get back together and the players all had programmes to follow so fitness shouldn’t be an issue.
“Hopefully we can channel all our energy into the game because we were in good form and would love to have something to show for all our hard work this year.”
The winners will play Billericay or Ipswich Town in the third round
The game takes place at the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.
