Oxford United Women Put Through Their Paces

Sports Science team help the OUFC Women

3 January 2020

Oxford United Women pride themselves on their physical fitness and got a chance to show it last night when they teamed up with the men’s first team Sports Science team of Chris Short and Dwayne Peasah.

The squad were put through their paces at the new Oxford United Training Ground where the fantastic facilities allowed for a full range of testing and monitoring. Manager Liam Gilbert told us

“We work hard on the physical side of the game but Chris and Dwayne very kindly offered to help us and we jumped at the chance. The girls worked incredibly hard but it was all done as part of a carefully built programme that allowed us to really assess levels and hopefully the work we did in the gym all pays off on the pitch in the second half of the season.”

Chris told us

“What struck me was the enthusiasm and the competitive nature of the players. They all wanted to push each other and help each other get the best results possible and it was really enjoyable. I’m not sure they all agreed at the time though because we pushed them pretty hard at times!

“The new training ground allows us to expand what we do and Dwayne and I will be looking to offer further opportunities for local sports teams and sports people over the next few months.”
