James joined the United youth ranks from AFC Wimbledon, signing his first professional contract in March 2022 after a very successful loan spell with Southern League Premier Division title winners Banbury United. He has been capped twice for the Republic of Ireland U19s.

James is spending the 2025/26 season on loan at League Two side Crewe Alexandra.
