Oxford United’s Will Vaulks has been named the overall EFL Player in the Community at the 2026 EFL Awards.
Having already been recognised as the Championship winner, Will was selected as the overall recipient ahead of fellow divisional winners Hamish Douglas and Taylor Moore, in recognition of his outstanding and deeply impactful work within the community.
Will has played a leading role in driving suicide prevention and mental health awareness, using his own personal experiences to inspire change and encourage open conversation. After losing both of his grandfathers to suicide, he has dedicated himself to ensuring others receive the support and understanding that can help save lives.
At the heart of his work is Oxford United’s Can We Talk? campaign, delivered in partnership with the charity Baton of Hope. Through this initiative, Will has helped deliver suicide prevention workshops, provide accredited training for players, staff and supporters, and take the message into schools and the wider community.
He has also funded and led impactful events, including large-scale workshops offering free suicide prevention training, while continuing to advocate for a wider, game-wide commitment to tackling mental health challenges.
His work has not only driven meaningful change at Oxford United but has also influenced conversations across the wider football community, helping to break down stigma and promote education around one of the most pressing public health issues in the UK.
In November 2025, Will’s work was recognised globally as he was awarded the FIFPRO Player Voice Award, highlighting his position as an international leader in suicide prevention.
Oxford United congratulates Will on this well-deserved honour and is proud to stand alongside him in advancing mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
