A number of Oxford United stars were in action for their countries over the last couple of weeks.

Ciaron Brown, Jamie McDonnell and Brodie Spencer were all called up to represent Northern Ireland during the international break, featuring in friendly fixtures against Guinea and France. Meanwhile, Ole Romeny and Marselino Ferdinan were in action for Indonesia as they took on Oman and Mozambique in a pair of friendly matches.

Northern Ireland opened their international schedule against Guinea in Cádiz, Spain, with both Ciaron Brown and Jamie McDonnell named in the starting XI. Brodie Spencer was introduced at half-time from the bench as Michael O'Neill's side secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory. Brown played a key role in a disciplined defensive display that earned Northern Ireland a clean sheet.

United's Northern Irish trio were back in action on Monday evening, this time in Lille, where they faced one of the favourites for this summer's World Cup, France. Brown retained his place at the heart of the defence, while Spencer came into the side at right-back.

Tasked with containing a star-studded French attack featuring Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise and Désiré Doué, Brown and Spencer rose to the challenge superbly. Alongside their teammates, they produced a resilient defensive performance and turned in impressive individual displays against elite opposition.

However, France's attacking quality ultimately proved decisive after the break, with the hosts pulling away to secure a 3-1 victory. Jamie McDonnell was introduced from the bench in the closing stages to earn further international experience against top-class opposition.

Ole Romeny continued his impressive form on the international stage, finding the net in both of Indonesia's fixtures to bring his return to six goals from his first 10 senior caps.

Indonesia's first fixture against Oman ended in a convincing 3-0 victory, with Romeny on the scoresheet for the second goal of the afternoon. Capitalising on a defensive error midway through the first half, the forward raced clear down the right side of the penalty area before calmly slotting the ball into the far corner.

Romeny was at it again in Indonesia's second match against Mozambique on Tuesday, scoring the only goal of the game to secure another victory for his side. With just 12 minutes played, he timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap, rounded the goalkeeper and confidently fired home, despite the best efforts of a recovering defender sliding in front of him.

Meanwhile, Marselino Ferdinan marked his return to action after a six-month injury lay-off. The midfielder, who spent last season on loan with Slovakian side Trenčín, played 65 minutes on his comeback appearance before being substituted.
