Under-18s Start PDL Cup at Home to Swansea

Oxford United Under-18s take on Swansea City this Saturday at the Training Centre in the opening match of the PDL Cup.

The Young U’s had an unfortunate end to their PDL Cup run last season, bowing out on goal difference. A 3-0 defeat to Luton Town in the first group stage match weakened chances of progressing.

They still gave it their best go, beating both Watford and Colchester United, but Luton’s superior goal difference meant they topped the group and ended Oxford’s run.

Swansea had better luck in the tournament last year, topping their group, before going on to run riot in a 12-0 win over Doncaster Rovers in the quarterfinals. Their tournament ended in the semi-finals with a defeat to Luton.

The two sides have met in this tournament before, when a dramatic penalty shootout decided the winner. The match 2-2 following extra time, and it was the Swans who progressed to the quarter-finals by winning 5-4 on penalties.

Alongside Swansea, Oxford have been put in a group with Shrewsbury Town and Coventry City.

With there being no Men's First Team game this weekend, it’s a great opportunity to get down and support the Young U’s against another top Academy side.

Kick off is at 2:00pm at the Training Centre on Saturday 29 August.
