Under 18s host Leyton Orient in season opener

The Under 18s kickstart their League campaign this Saturday with a home clash against Leyton Orient. Kick off will be at 11:00am at the Oxford United Training Centre and is a perfect way for fans to start their day before heading to the Kassam.

The Young U’s wrapped up their pre-season last weekend with a 2-1 defeat to Notts County in just their second match heading into the season. The first, however, was a much better result, beating Slough comfortably 4-2. Despite playing just two Under-18s fixtures, many of the boys received valuable minutes for the U21s, with notable challenges away in Bristol, Totton, and a couple of home games against top opposition.

With 10 new scholars signing for The Young U’s this year, Saturday will be a good chance to see a lot of new faces and some familiar ones back in action.

Head Coach Niall Keown spoke about the past few weeks and the PDP training camp in Scotland: “It’s been a useful pre-season, I think the boys got a lot out of the trip to Scotland. It’s always important with a new group to get them together and get them bonding”.

Previewing tomorrow’s opener, Niall said: “It’s always a bit of an unknown, you can look at footage from teams from previous seasons and assume that’s what they’ll be like, but they can be something completely different. We just need to make sure we’re ready and at our best”.
