Sophie Quirk Signs For Oxford United Women

Sophie Quirk

Oxford United Women are delighted to announce the signing of Sophie Quirk from AFC Bournemouth.

The 24-year-old arrives following a memorable season on the South Coast, scoring a remarkable 29 goals in 33 games as Bournemouth finished third in the WNL Southern Premier Division.

Quirk took home Bournemouth’s Player of the Season Award for the 25/26 season after finishing as one of the most lethal forwards in the league.

Speaking after completing her move, Quirk said: “It's amazing to sign and I've very excited to get going with a great group of girls.

"There is so much ambition in the Club and everyone has been so welcoming to me which makes me look forward.

"I'm a direct player who has experience of winning promotions, so I hope I can bring that to the group into this season."

Oxford United Women Manager, Liam Gilbert said: "Sophie is someone I've known about for a long time, and what she's done so far in her career has been brilliant.

“To have someone like that commit to this Club shows where we’re moving to, and I’m looking forward to working with her on a consistent basis.”

The Ascot-born forward came through Reading’s academy and had spells at London Bees and Charlton Athletic before joining Portsmouth in 2022. She racked up 60 goal involvements in her first two seasons, helping Pompey secure promotion to the WSL 2.

A fans’ favourite, Quirk then scored nine goals in 26 games as Portsmouth consolidated their place in the second-tier of the women’s game.

Her stellar performances earned her the Championship’s Rising Star award during the 2024/25 campaign, before she departed for Bournemouth last summer.

Oxford United’s first summer signing will now link up with her new teammates in June when pre-season gets underway ahead of an exciting 2026/27 campaign.
