Simon Eastwood Signs New Coaching Contract

Oxford United can confirm long-serving goalkeeper, Simon Eastwood, has signed a new contract at the Club.

The 36-year-old will officially help to coach the next generation of Oxford United goalkeepers, while continuing to train with the Men’s Team to support the First Team goalkeepers.

Joining the Club for a second spell in 2016, Eastwood has made 288 appearances in yellow over 10 years and will use his experience as a coach, helping the Under-21 and Under-18 goalkeeping units.

Speaking on his announcement, he said: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract with the Club and extend my stay.

“First and foremost, I’m here as a player, helping behind-the-scenes every day in training. Then, there’s some additional coaching added in there as well, which is something I’ve been helping with over the last year and I’ve loved.

“I received my A-licence recently and helped to step up last season when Lewis Price took on additional responsibilities with the First Team. I worked with the coaching department everyday and it was something I loved, so I’m excited for this next stage.

“I’m into my 11th year at the Club, and it’s a place which feels like home. I have a lovely life in Oxford, so it’s fantastic to commit my future here even longer.

“First of all, I sign on as a player and I will continue to train each day with the team. I’m more of a senior head now and I feel I can help the younger lads and the First Team keepers at the same time.”

Ed Waldron, Head of Football Operations, said: “Simon has been an integral part of the Football Club over the last decade and it’s fantastic to see him take this next step in his journey.

“He has been a fantastic goalkeeper with almost 300 appearances for the Club and remains an important part of the First Team squad in training and on matchdays.

“Now, helping to coach our young goalkeepers, Simon can pass on his experience and quality, which will be fundamental in their development.”
