Oxford United are delighted to announce Sam Long has signed a new contract, extending his 14-year professional career at the Club.
Making his debut in 2012, Sam has played more than 300 games for United, playing a crucial role in the rise from League Two to the Championship.
The 31-year-old has played 36 times this season, missing just six Championship fixtures, and continues to be an integral part of the Men’s Team.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Sam said: “Oxford's everything to me. It’s been my life since a very young boy and I want to continue to have many more years in the First Team.
“I’m very fortunate to have played more than 300 times already. This Club is very important to me and I’m looking forward to a positive future.
“We have an important month left in the season where we are all fighting to keep Oxford United in the Championship.
“I will continue to do everything that I can to push this Club forward. I’m excited for what’s to come with your unbelievable support behind me and the team as always.”
Head of Football Operations, Ed Waldron, said: “Sam is continuing to show just how important he is to this Football Club. Not only is he a leader in the group off the pitch, over the last two seasons he has improved to a level where he is one of our most consistent performers in the Championship.
“Sam’s commitment to himself, his family, and Oxford United, means he thoroughly deserves this new deal to extend his stay.
“He epitomises what it means to be an Oxford United player and he is a brilliant example for the younger generation
“We are all delighted to have Sam sign a new deal and we are looking forward to many more successful years to follow.”
