Oxford United are delighted to announce Sam Long has signed a new contract, extending his 13-year professional career with the Club.
Having joined United at the age of nine, Long has been a vital member of the team since making his debut in 2012, helping the Club rise from League Two to the Championship.
Last season, the defender continued to play an important role with 24 league appearances, scoring one of the most pivotal goals in the campaign with the winner in a crucial victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
With more than 270 appearances to his name for the Yellows, the 30-year-old will now stay beyond the 2025/26 season as he continues to cement his place as a true Club great.
Speaking after signing his new deal, he said: “I am so proud to play for Oxford United. This Club has been my life for as long as I can remember. I have given absolutely everything for the badge since I first pulled it on at the age of nine in the Academy, and I’m excited to give more in the years to come.
“I had no hesitation at all when it came around to signing a new deal. This is the only place I want to be.
“I’ve been privileged to be part of this Club for all 13 years of my professional career. From League Two to Championship, it’s been an incredible journey which has many more exciting times ahead.
“None of this has been made possible without your unbelievable support throughout my career. Now, as ever, I will continue to do everything I can to lift our Club forward together.”
Head of Football Operations, Ed Waldron, said: “Sam has been one of the most influential figures at Oxford United over the last decade. An outstanding player and professional, he has been a key driving force on and off the pitch in helping the Club reach and stay in the Championship.
“At each turn, Sam has stepped up to the challenge, signified by his performances as a Championship defender last season. Whether it was 90 minutes, or one minute, every time Sam stepped on the pitch, he put his body on the line which sums up the character of the man and what this Club means to him.
“Reliable, consistent, professional, and importantly, a genuinely good person, we are delighted to sign Sam to a new contract.”
