Preview: Oxford United Women visit MK Dons in National League Cup

Oxford United Women's Team

Oxford United Women look to maintain their good start to the season with a trip to MK Dons Women in the FA Women’s National Cup group stage on Wednesday evening.

Having beaten Gwalia United 1-0 in Wales on Sunday to get the new season off to a winning start, the U’s now journey to the Eyrie Stadium in Bedford (MK44 3LW) to get their cup campaign underway (7:45pm kick off).

Now in National League South East, MK Dons got off to a poor start, going down 7-0 at home to Queens Park Rangers in their opening fixture. Clearly, they will be looking for a response at home against a higher-division opponent, and United will have to be aware of any dangers that the home side might pose.

Speaking about the tie, United manager Sam Rose said: "I’m looking forward to watching the players play who didn’t play against Gwalia. I said to the girls that we obviously have to pick an eleven, but the whole squad is important to us.

“We have to approach the game with the same mentality, try to keep a clean sheet and try to win the football match.”

Also in the same group as the U’s are Tottenham Hotspur PGA and Luton Town, both of which will play against Oxford at the MGroup Stadium, on Sunday 7 September and Sunday 28 September respectively.
