Oxford United… 2

(Brannagan 45’, Placheta 90+6’)

Millwall… 2

(Ballo 11’, Cooper 66’)

Przemyslaw Placheta sealed a dramatic point for Oxford United with a 96th minute equaliser, as Gary Rowett's side drew 2-2 with Millwall.

The visitors led twice, but Cameron Brannagan had equalised on the stroke of half-time with a wonder strike from the edge of the area.

Then, with almost the last kick of the game, substitute Placheta found a stunning equaliser to earn a vital point.

It was Oxford United’s dedicated Remembrance Day fixture, as both clubs paid their respects to those who have fallen in conflicts.

Time for action and United were looking to gain successive victories for the first time this season following last weekend’s 2-1 victory away at Sheffield Wednesday.

It was a poor start for Gary Rowett against his former side, with Millwall taking the lead after 11 minutes. A long throw from the right wasn’t dealt with, as the U’s allowed the ball to bounce in the box, and it fell to Thiemo Ballo who headed beyond Jamie Cumming.

Millwall came into the game with four wins on the spin and they continued to threaten, with Jake Cooper heading narrowly wide on 18 minutes from a corner.

United came roaring back against the Lions and were close to equalising three minutes later. Brian De Keersmaecker forced Max Crocombe into a fine save with a first time volley from the right of the box.

The game fell into a quieter spell for chances creating, but Jack Currie did have an effort from 20 yards out with six minutes of the half left, which sailed a few yards over the bar.

Then right on the stroke of the half, Cameron Brannagan stepped up once again to do Cameron Brannagan things. Stan Mills cut in from the right and laid the ball back to the captain on the edge of the box, and with the ball bouncing, he curled the most stunning shot into the top left corner, off the underside of the bar.

Into the second period and United came out firing. A long throw on 52 minutes almost brought the U’s into the lead, with De Keersmaecker getting on the bouncing ball and his shot was saved straight at Crocombe.

Millwall grew back into the game after this point and eventually did get themselves back in front. A shot from the left of the box was saved by Cumming, but parried out to Jake Cooper – the big central defender who easily tapped in from a few yards out.

It was up to United to get going to find the equaliser, but Millwall continued to threaten, with Ryan Leanord testing Cumming with six minutes to play, which was well saved to keep the door open for an equaliser.

Then right at the death, United grabbed a dramatic leveller. Brannagan’s freekick in the 96th minute was expertly saved, but then moments later Przemyslaw Placheta found the bottom right corner to send the home crowd wild. Right on the edge of the box, the Polish winger’s volley drilled through the bodies and into the net, to seal a worthy point.
