Oxford United fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Swansea City in Wales after two first half goals.
Gary Rowett named the same starting XI from the 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town, hoping for a similar result.
United started bright, putting pressure on Swansea straight away, with Stan Mills fizzing a shot wide inside the opening 10 minutes.
Despite the promising start, the hosts began to get a foothold back into the game
Mills inside 10 minutes good break right foot shot high and wide, with top goal scorer Zan Vipotnik heading just wide on the 18th minute, with Jamie Cumming scrambling.
The striker did have the ball in the back of the net on the 31st minute following a clever Swansea freekick which caught United out, however, the offside flag was raised.
On the 40th minute, Swansea did take the lead through Marko Stamenic. A wide freekick from Josh Tymon bear Jamie Cumming to find the midfielder at the back post to head into an empty net.
It got worse for Oxford as with the last kick of the half, Tymon doubled the hosts lead. A corner from the right was headed clear by Michal Helik out to the left back, who produced a contender for goal of the season with a stunning volley into the top right corner.
It was all to do for Oxford in the second half as they had to find goals and find them fast. Helik had the first real sight of a chance since Mills in the opening 10 minutes, when his connection from Will Vaulks’ long throw was saved down low by the keeper.
On the 62nd minute, Gary Rowett made fourth substitutions hoping to make the difference, with the front three all changing.
Will Lankshear had the big chance to get United back into it four minutes later. Brian De Keersmaecker swung in a perfect cross to the back post with Lankshear yards away from goal, but he couldn’t get the correct contact on it and headed wide.
Ole Romeny had another big opportunity for United with a few minutes left on the clock, however, the keeper made a strong save with his legs to stop a late comeback.
Disappointment for United, now it’s on to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.
