Oxford United were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Bradford City in difficult conditions in the rain at the Kassam Stadium.
United started brightly and created two big chances inside the opening four minutes. On the one-minute mark, a delicate touch from Tyler Goodrham sent Gatlin O’Donkor through on goal, but his angled effort was well saved by Job McCracken from close range.
Three minutes later, Goodrham’s corner from the right was met by Ciaron Brown, whose powerful header looked destined for the bottom-right corner before a Bradford defender cleared off the line.
The U’s continued to dominate the early stages, with O’Donkor going close again in the 23rd minute. Siriki Dembele wriggled free in midfield before slipping the striker through, but his effort from a similar position narrowly cleared the crossbar.
Bradford threatened in the 29th minute, forcing Jamie Cumming into an excellent save. As the ball bounced inside the area, it fell to Kayden Jackson, but the United goalkeeper raced off his line to smother the effort and preserve the clean sheet.
United continued to create opportunities before the break, with Cameron Brannagan seeing several efforts from distance fail to find the target.
The U’s should have taken the lead six minutes into the second half when O’Donkor missed another golden opportunity. Good work down the left ended with Andrews delivering a perfect cross, but the unmarked striker headed wide from just 10 yards out.
Bradford responded with a strong spell of pressure and came close to breaking the deadlock in the 56th minute. Connelly’s curling effort from 20 yards was saved by Cumming, and when the visitors regained possession and worked the ball back into the box, Lapslie looked certain to score. However, Cumming produced a stunning reaction save to keep United level.
The visitors continued to push in difficult conditions, but United’s defence stood firm, producing a resolute display to secure a clean sheet despite the missed opportunities at the other end.
United will look to turn their chances into goals on Tuesday night when Stockport County visit in another tough test.
