Festive cheer spread through Oxford Children’s Hospital as players and staff from Oxford United Football Club visited patients, their families and hospital staff as part of their annual Christmas visit.

Men’s team stars Cameron Brannagan, Will Vaulks and Mark Harris joined Women’s team players Ellie-Mae Richardson, Lucy Trinder, Maisy Barker and Holly Turner to spread smiles, hand out dozens of gifts, and even enjoy a kickabout with children currently undergoing treatment and spending part of the festive season in hospital.

Continuing a much-loved tradition, Oxford United generously donated gifts to the Children’s Hospital, based at the John Radcliffe Hospital and part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH).

Jo Pinney, Health Play Specialist Team Manager at OUH, said: "Visits like this make such a difference to children and families during what can be a difficult time. Seeing the players take the time to chat, play games and bring gifts really lifts everyone’s spirits and creates special memories that last well beyond Christmas.

“It’s always a privilege and great fun to welcome Oxford United to the hospital and we are very grateful to the club for their time and support.”

U’s Men’s captain Cameron Brannagan said: “Representing Oxford United goes far beyond what we do on the pitch. As captain, I was incredibly moved by our visit, and I hope we brought some Christmas cheer in what can be a difficult time.

“Also, it was fantastic to see the amazing work the staff put in on a daily basis and through this festive period. On behalf of everyone at Oxford United, we are proud as players and staff to support the Children's Hospital.”

Jamie French, Hospital Engagement Manager at Oxford Hospitals Charity said: "Being in hospital at Christmas can mean missing out on some of the special family traditions and festive celebrations. So we are incredibly grateful to Oxford United for their visit, which filled our hospital with smiles, excitement and Christmas spirit, giving our children and their families a moment of joy at what can be a very challenging time.

“It was also a wonderful boost for our hospital staff, who work so hard to make Christmas special for our patients.”
