Louie Sibley has spoken about Aaron Ramsey’s influence on him and the squad after Oxford United’s 3-0 victory over Burton Albion last Saturday.
The midfielder has been an important member of the United team this season, scoring the second goal against Burton, effectively sealing the win before Gatlin O’Donkor scored the third a few minutes later.
The goal marks a positive return for Sibley, who went out on loan last season at Bradford City. He reflected on the new mentality that the manager had instilled within him and the squad.
Speaking to OUTV, he said: “As soon as the Gaffer came in, he's sent these messages - there's a proper togetherness throughout the team.”
“The message is clear as soon as you get on the pitch you've got to give everything you can. When the lads come on it's important to make an impact, in the last few games Gats (O'Donkor) has made an impact and so has Ty (Goodrham).”
Sibley struggled for minutes during the first half of last season. He left the Club on a six-month loan to Bradford City but unfortunately found game-time hard to come by.
Sibley spoke about his desire to step up and seize the opportunity upon returning to the Club this season now with Ramsey in charge.
He added: “A new manager coming in, obviously it's time to impress and do everything you can.”
He further elaborated on his time last year and how that has motivated him going into the 2026/27 season.
“For me, last season it was very frustrating for the first six months. I wasn't really in the squad, then obviously went to Bradford and it didn't really work out. It's part of football, the ups and downs, but it makes you hungrier to get back into the team and do what you can.
“As soon as the new staff and the Gaffer have come in it's been great with me and obviously, he's given me a lot of opportunity. Every time he gives me an opportunity, I've got to prove what I can do.”
Sibley went on to explain the effect that Ramsey has had on him since joining the Club.
“It's been amazing since he's come in. As a midfielder there’s a lot you can learn. When's he's played at the top level it's always good to learn from him. It's been really positive for me obviously learning every day and picking up tips.
There has also been a significant improvement with the atmosphere inside the Training Centre, according to Sibley. He spoke highly of the unity within the squad and how Ramsey’s message has resonated with the players.
“There's definitely a different feeling around the building. It's a lot of positive," he added.
“It’s easy to say after positive results but there is a massive difference. There's a lot of togetherness and there's lads that have got a point to prove.”
