It’s the second game at the Kassam Stadium in three days as Oxford United take on Swansea City, and interim Head Coach Craig Short is looking to make it back-to-back wins.
Boxing Day’s impressive 2-1 victory over Southampton was a huge three points for United and for Short who stepped into the dugout.
With confidence high in the camp, the former Blackburn Rovers defender wants to see his team back it up and put successive victories on the board.
Speaking exclusively to OUTV, he said: “Confidence is such an important thing in sport. The players seemed to enjoy the pressure and give the fans a performance and now the challenge is doing it again.
“I wanted to give the players a day off after Friday, but I brought them in to feel that togetherness again and enjoy that winning feeling together.
“This is a bigger test for us now because we have raised our level and now we have to do it again.
“That feeling at the end of the game, with the music on and smiles on people’s faces, we want to give them that again.
“We got a performance and a result on Boxing Day. If we can get somewhere near that level, then hopefully we can get there.”
Southampton had their moments on Friday afternoon, and if not for a couple of crucial Jamie Cumming saves, it could have been a narrow defeat rather than a win.
Halfway through the season now, Short believes there are going to more ups and downs in games and has urged everyone to stick together through it.
He added: “My heart was in my mouth at times on Boxing Day, I’m sure it was for the supporters also.
“Keep with the lads because they are working very, very hard and they have done all season.
“They’re giving us everything and they’re a good set of lads who I am privileged to be leading at this moment.”
