Oxford United are delighted to announce the signing of Ben Davies on a season-long loan from Rangers.
The 30-year-old central defender arrives with more than 150 appearances in the Championship, alongside experience in cup finals, and in Europe in the UEFA Champions & UEFA Europa League.
A graduate of the Preston North End youth system, a Club where he spent eight years and won Player of the Year in 2018/19, Davies featured 44 times in Birmingham City’s record-breaking League One title promotion last season.
Having signed for Liverpool in 2021, and following spells at both Rangers and Sheffield United, Ben is a proven professional at a very high level.
Speaking after signing for Oxford United, Davies said: “I’m delighted to be here. As soon as I heard of the interest I was sold. I spoke to the Head Coach, and I got the feel that this is a Football Club which can take a step forward this year.
“I felt this is a great chance for me to play Championship football. I’m really grateful for the opportunity the Club have given me, and I will do everything to have a strong season.
“I’ve played a lot of football, and I hope I can bring those experiences to the team. I’m really looking forward to getting started and helping the Club achieve its ambitions.”
Head Coach, Gary Rowett, said: “Ben is a very experienced and strong defender with a great ability to play forward.
“He has played at a very high level in extremely pressurised environments where he has demonstrated his qualities.
“We are delighted to welcome Ben to the Club and feel he can be a significant addition to our group this season.”
Head of Football Operations, Ed Waldron, said: “We have taken our time when looking to recruit a central defender to ensure we brought the right quality into the squad.
“Ben matches what we want for the position. Strong, aggressive and intelligent both in and out of possession, he adds great quality that we believe will impact our team.
“We are pleased Ben has chosen Oxford United as the next step in his career, and we look forward to working alongside him for the season.”
