Aaron Ramsey's Coaching Additions Confirmed

Chris Gunter & Tom Hutton

Oxford United can confirm two key additions to Aaron Ramsey's coaching staff ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Chris Gunter joins as Assistant Head Coach having led Wales' Under-19 side at this summer's UEFA European Under-19 Championship. After retiring as a player in 2023, Chris immediately joined the Wales national team coaching set-up for the EURO 2024 qualifying campaign, while he also supported the integration of emerging talent within the senior international environment.

A UEFA Pro License holder, he also worked as a coach at Cardiff City during Aaron's spell as interim manager. As a player, he earned more than 100 caps for Wales and also has a wealth of Premier League and EFL experience, having represented the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Charlton Athletic.

Tom Hutton, regarded as one of Wales' brightest coaches, joins after leading Cardiff City's Under-18 side. With more than 15 years’ experience in professional football, he has an excellent reputation in player development. During his time at Cardiff, Tom had a fantastic track record in transitioning players to become first team regulars and onto international level. An experienced coach across senior and youth football, Hutton also worked alongside both Aaron and Chris during their time at Cardiff.

Speaking on the appointments, Aaron said: "I'm delighted to bring Chris and Tom to the Club to add to the already strong coaching staff we have in the building.

"Having worked closely with both, particularly Chris, I know the qualities they will bring. They'll add fresh ideas, a huge amount of energy and an incredible attention to detail that will help drive us forward.

"I'm extremely pleased with the coaching team we've assembled. We have a really strong blend of people with experience at the Club alongside exciting new voices, and together our responsibility is to create an environment where players can improve every single day.

"We want the Training Centre to be a place where standards are relentlessly high to give the players the best chance of being successful. If we can build an elite environment and establish the right habits, we'll give the players a fantastic platform so they can perform on a Saturday."

The Club can also confirm analyst Ben Cirne has departed Oxford United after joining in January 2026. Everyone at Oxford United would like to thank Ben for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.
