Oxford United get a chance to keep their recent good form going when they welcome Barnsley to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night.

The cold weather put paid to Saturday's game at home to Northampton but with temperatures rising and the pitch thawed out, the U’s look to continue their good form when they welcome the Tykes.

“Players just want to play and were very keen on Saturday, coming off the back of two away wins and four wins in six games” Des Buckingham told iFollow. “We are up there towards the top of the form table, but Barnsley are right up there as well. They have the top scorer in the league, they are a good side and it sets up what should be a really good game of football.

“It was frustrating not to have a game at the weekend but I think we can safely say that we gave it the best chance to be on. I went down there at three o’clock on Friday and the pitch was very hard but we were hoping that the sun would get on it and temperatures would rise so we were back for a pitch inspection at 10 on Saturday with the ref and with the Northampton Manager.

“Kieran and the groundstaff worked so hard to try and get the game on but unfortunately Mother Nature didn’t play along with us. It just hadn’t warmed up enough and the cloud was blocking any sun so we had no choice and will have to rearrange it for another Tuesday night.

“Having seen it on Friday we had a back up plan just in case so we reported to the Training Ground at 1pm, just like we would do if the game was on, we trained on the 3G surfaces in the cages here and we had a really good session Then we trained again today and we have been able to focus all our attention on to Tuesday night.

“We will have Sam Long involved again after injury and Stephan Negru and Josh Murphy could be back as well. If those two don’t make it for Tuesday they will hopefully be involved for the trip to Bristol Rovers on Saturday. We have new faces like Jamie Cumming and Tyler Burey involved at home for the first time as well and we feel like we are in a good place.

“Now we have to make our home advantage count, give the crowd something to get behind, and hopefully we continue our form and we get another win in front of our fans.”
