Sam Rose Appointed As New OUWFC Manager

Women appoint first ever Full-Time Manager

9 November 2023

Oxford United Women are delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Rose as First Team Manager.

After a thorough recruitment process, Sam joins the U’s from Women’s Super League team Aston Villa where he worked as Assistant Manager last season and will become the first ever Full-Time Manager of Oxford United Women.

Rose also has a wealth of experience in youth football. He worked in the Academy at Burton Albion for 12 years in various roles from Head of Coaching to Professional Development Phase Lead Coach, and at Nottingham Forest as Youth Development Phase Coach (U16) as part of a Category 1 Premier League Academy.

Sam took his first training session with the squad on Tuesday night and will be in charge for this Sunday’s game against Woodley United Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup First Round.

Sam Rose said: “I think the potential of the group and what the club are trying to put together is really exciting and that’s what’s attracted me to the job.”

“There’s a good young squad here that have the ability to turn the form from how the season started and my job is to bring that out of them and get them closer to where we want to be which is the top of the table.”

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me as a Full-Time role, and one that I think I’m geared up to make a success of; I’ve got the skillset and the experience to take the club and the team where we want to go.”

“It’s a real statement of intent from the club and hopefully that will have a knock-on effect and raise the levels and expectations so we can be even more competitive on the pitch, and I can’t wait to put my all into it.”

Oxford United Women’s General Manager, Gemma Sims, said: “We are over the moon to have Sam on board. His passion and energy for developing talent and the women’s game really caught our attention and we’re all very excited for this new era at Oxford United Women.

“Sam has plenty of new ideas and will continue to build our exciting young squad to battle at the top of our division and push for our goal of promotion to the Women’s Championship.”
