Oxford United look to pick up where they left off when they travel to Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

United’s last game was a thrilling 3-2 win at Leyton Orient, and as Cameron Brannagan told iFollow, the players are determined to win their first game under new Head Coach Des Buckingham.

“Football can change so quickly and we have to be at our best on Saturday,” he said. “We’ve had a break, we have a new Manager and we want to carry on where we left off before the break. The fans will be there in numbers, there will be a great atmosphere again, so let’s go there and make sure we keep everything going.”

All of the players had a rare weekend off due to the international break, something Cameron believes they had earned:

“I think we did need the time away from things if I’m honest. It is a long season and we had been playing a lot of games, so it was good to just go and chill. We kept ticking over and put in a couple of runs; we have to send a video to the group, but they could all see the fishing lake in the background of mine! Everyone knows that’s my thing by now and how I switch off.

“We knew about the new Gaffer’s appointment, but there wasn’t too much chat about what was going on. It was more a case of ‘let’s get in on Monday and go from there’.

“It has been really good so far this week. He came in and had a chat with the group, we have trained over the last couple of days and we have been working towards Saturday’s game. Everyone has been flying because it’s a new Manager and everyone wants to impress and get into the team, so that’s been excellent.

“We want to build on that Orient result. I know fans loved their day, but it was a nightmare to play in. We were 3-0 up and they got it back to 3-2 so it was tough but the celebrations were class. Shorty deserved that win and we had to push him into celebrating like he did! What we want is to be celebrating again on the pitch with the fans on Saturday.”
