Oxford United Women beat Gillingham Women 5-1 in their final home game of the season on Sunday, meaning a win away at Ipswich on Sunday would clinch the FAWNL Southern Premier Division Title.

Following a tough defeat to promotion rivals Watford on Thursday, the U’s were excellent on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Leah Burridge, Riva Casley and Daisy McLachlan put the U’s in control at the break, before McLachlan and Tash Stephens scored to make it a comfortable victory.

“We were more than ready, the determination and motivation that we had after Thursday, we wanted to go out and prove a point today. With two games left to play it was a must win and 5-1 was fantastic.

“It was good to see different goal scorers, it was nice to be back on the scoresheet myself, playing a bit higher I loved it.

“We all graft for the team, it’s not just me out there working hard, it’s every single player and we’ve all got each other’s backs. We work for the person in front of us, behind us and beside us. Ultimately, we all want the same thing and we’ve got one game to go.

“We’re very positive going forwards, but also defensively. There’s still more to come from us and hopefully in the last, fingers crossed, two games we can show what we’re all about again and continue playing as well as we are.

“Nothing stops in terms of our preparation, we continue building, we continue focusing on us and what we do well as a team and it will come.”

Join the U’s for a massive game in Ipswich on Sunday the 7th of May.
