Josh Ready For First Home Friendly

Oxford United play their first home pre-season friendly of the summer when they welcome Swansea City to the Kassam Stadium on Friday evening (7.30pm)

It’s a chance for fans to take a look at the new boys in Liam Manning’s squad and as midfielder Josh McEachran told iFollow today, a chance for the players to get used to their home surroundings.

“We're all coming along as a team,” he said. ”We are getting used to playing alongside each other. We've got a tough test tomorrow and then again on Saturday, so we're looking forward to both games this weekend.

“Having played against Eastleigh and Barnet on Tuesday, National League sides, we saw a lot of the ball trying to break them down. Swansea will be a different proposition. We know they are a good Championship side. They've just been taken over by a new manager who did really well at Barnsley as well, so I think they'll be very good.

“I played there, my first ever loan. I think I was 18, just turning 19. So 11 years ago now. It was tough to get into the side; the midfield was Leon Britton, Joe Allen and Gilfy Sigurdsson, so quite a good midfield and I  didn't have much game time but I really enjoyed it. The staff, the fans, everyone were unbelievable.

“I have played at the Kassam Stadium for other sides but it’s the first time in an Oxford shirt and for an Oxford boy that will be a special moment.

“It’s good to be playing games again. In pre-season there's a lot of running but it gets a lot more enjoyable when the games come along. That's what you look forward to as a player: playing in the games. Pre-season has been a mix: there's been a lot of running , but it's mainly been football, so it's all been good.

“You can see it taking shape with each game that comes. Even from the first game to the second game, you can see the what we're trying to do, what we're trying to achieve.”

Come along and see the new-look U’s in home action for the first time.
