PREVIEW Liam Manning on Swansea

U's Boss looks ahead to first home game of pre-season

20 July 2023

Oxford United kick off their home pre-season games with a friendly against Swansea City at the Kassam Stadium on Friday evening (7.30pm)

“It will be an excellent test for us” Head Coach Liam Manning told us. “Swansea are a good side but we are focussed on what we have to do ourselves to be ready for the first game away at Cambridge

“We have had three games so far and everyone has had around equal amounts of time on the pitch. You could see in the second half against Barnet and for a half at Eastleigh that the shape is starting to develop; we had a lot of the ball and a lot of chances on Tuesday but just didn’t take them, while we scored five earlier in the day.

“There have been one or two knocks and bruises, you would expect that after three games this week but none of them are too bad, hopefully. Marcus McGuane will be available as will Simon Eastwood but who plays in which game is something we haven’t finalised yet.

“We have a game at Bristol City on Saturday so everyone will get game time this weekend, and we will sit down and go through who needs minutes and who needs to play in which game. It’s about building relationships and partnerships as well, so we’ll take all of that into consideration for what we hope will be two really good games

“I hope the fans come along and enjoy the game on Friday. They have been brilliant all summer, season tickets have sold well, the new kit is breaking all records so there is a real positivity around the whole place as we go in to the game.”

Come along and see the new-look U’s in home action for the first time.
