PREVIEW Wycombe Wanderers v Oxford United

A full guide to tonight's game

24 January 2023

Oxford United make the short trip up the M40 tonight to take on Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park (7.45pm)

TEAM NEWS
United look to build on back-to-back wins at Fleetwood and at home to Ipswich and Karl Robinson told iFollow:

"Those two games were in really difficult conditions and we expect fireworks tonight. It will be a tough game, very aggressive and with both teams fully committed. That's always the case when we play each other. I think the last couple of games have shown the togetherness of this group and we know we will fill the away end and have tremendous backing."

The U's boss must decide whether to keep the three man defensive shape that helped his side win on Saturday or revert to 4-3-3.

"It worked well" he said "but everyone knows that 4-3-3 is our usual shape. We have that flexibility and I thought Brandon Fleming was excellent on his debut as a wing back on Saturday."

THE OPPOSITION

Wycombe’s trip to Bristol Rovers was postponed on Saturday, giving Gareth Ainsworth’s side a longer build up to the game and that could allow Alfie Mawson to return from injury alongside former Oxford trialist Ryan Tafazolli in the centre of defence.

Tjay De Barr and Dominic Gape are also in contention while Sam Vokes may return to the starting line-up to lead the line.

The Chairboys are three points ahead of the U’s in eighth place in the table
