Oxford United Women’s Manager Liam Gilbert has been named FA Women’s National League Premier Division Manager of the Month for August.
Liam has guided the Yellows to a perfect start to the campaign, winning all four of their first games in the division and topping the table.
Gilbert’s side have played some sensational football, as well as being incredibly difficult to break down. The U’s have scored 12 goals in four games, conceding zero goals in the league so far, the only team to do so.
The Oxford Manager said
“It’s a real privilege to win the award but more so to come in and work with this squad and the coaching staff every day. The team has done everything I’ve asked them to do and so it’s a testament to their hard work and grit that we are where we are.
“I’m really happy with the way we’ve stuck together and created chances, but also the way we haven’t got complacent. On Sunday we were 5-0 up and in the 89th minute the whole squad, even the youngsters who came on were working their socks off to win the ball back. If we carry on with that mentality, then I can never be too angry as a coach.”
The award is given to the best manager across both the Northern and Southern Premier Division.
“Hopefully we can continue our success with a win in the League Cup this Sunday and then carry that momentum into the League" Liam said. "Our intention is to get promotion and move up a division and I can’t fault the way we’ve started. Now we need to focus and work even harder than we have done to make this excellent start count.”
Congratulations to Liam, his coaching staff and the team on the award.
The U’s now face AFC Bournemouth away in the League Cup this weekend, before returning to League action at Court Place Farm on Sunday the 18th of September.
