PREVIEW Shrewsbury Town v Oxford United

A full guide to Saturday's Sky Bet League 1 game

11 March 2022

Oxford United head for Shrewsbury Town on Saturday in Sky Bet League 1 (3pm)

TEAM NEWS
United will be without skipper Elliott Moore and forwards Sam Baldock and Marcus Browne through injury. Moore is making good progress after an ankle injury but Baldock (knee) and Browne (hamstring) will be missing for the next few weeks.

In Moore's absence Karl Robinson has switched to a three-man back line featuring Sam Long, Luke McNally and Ciaron Brown, while Baldock's injury opens the door for Sam Winnall or Billy Bodin, who returns to the squad after injury. The U's will keep an eye on James Henry in training today before deciding whether he also returns to the squad.

THE OPPOSITION
17th-placed Shrewsbury are a hard side to break down with only the top two, Rotherham and Wigan, having conceded fewer goals. Josh Vela has missed three games through suspension but is available again while Shaun Whalley, injured since November, could be involved.

Manager Steve Cotterill believes his side are due a little bit of luck.

“I think we’re better statistically than where our league position sees us at this moment in time, the stats tell me that, but we’ve got to try to get there. We need to keep doing the same that has made us not only difficult to beat but a good team. I reckon somewhere along the line we’re due a little rub of the green, I genuinely don’t think we’ve had that this season in any shape or form".

The last four meetings between the clubs in Shrewsbury have finished 3-2 with the U’s winning by that scoreline for the last three seasons in a row.
