RIP Paul Hinshelwood

U's mourn the death of former player

16 January 2022

Oxford United would like to pass on our love and best wishes to the family of our former defender Paul Hinshelwood who has died aged 65.

Hinshelwood, a right-back during his time at the Manor, came through the ranks at Crystal Palace alongside his brother Martin in the early 1970s and went on to make 319 appearances for the club, helping the Eagles to win the Division Two title and being named Player of the Season in 1979/80 and 1980/81

Paul then joined the U’s in the summer of 1983 and became a regular in Jim Smith’s side as they swept to the Third Division Championship. In total he played 64 times for the U’s scoring once.

The arrival of David Langan saw Paul move on to Millwall in January 1985 where he again won promotion from the Third Division before ending his career at Colchester United.

Our thoughts are with Paul’s friends and family.
