PREVIEW Charlton Athletic v Oxford United

A full guide to Saturday's game at the Valley

18 February 2022

Oxford United travel to Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League 1 on Saturday (3pm)

TEAM NEWS
United have plenty of attacking options with Sam Winnall and Sam Baldock both scoring two goals in a friendly against Cardiff U23s in midweek. Marcus Browne was also on the mark in that game but is unlikely to feature just yet.

James Henry trained yesterday and could be in contention next week while the one injury doubt after last week's game against Bolton is Billy Bodin who took a kick to the ankle but should be available for selection.

See Karl, Gavin Whyte and Anthony Forde previewing the game in iFollow right now.

THE OPPOSITION
Charlton caretaker boss Johnnie Jackson has plenty of respect for Karl Robinson:

“Karl was the one who gave me my first opportunity and brought me into the coaching set-up. I was coming to the end of my playing days and Karl recognised that, but he also recognised something in me. He is someone I look up to. He has definitely been a bit of a mentor to me. I’m thankful he helped me get on the ladder. It’s going to be a strange one, I’ve coached against his teams before but not as a manager.

“He did a great job at Charlton in difficult circumstances with the ownership and instability at the club. He was building something that, over time, could’ve been something good.

“He’s built a good team and they have flirted with promotion and the play-offs. He has been afforded time and resources there, which is what we all ask for as managers, and he’s had the autonomy to run it how he sees fit.”

Top-scorer Jayden Stockley (hip) has been out since December with Conor Washington and Chuks Aneke missing last weekend’s 2-1 loss at Wigan due to muscle injuries.
