The Oxford United Academy continues to go from strength to strength and on Saturday the newest recruits were welcomed to the club by a big crowd when the U’s took on Wycombe Wanderers.
The Under 9s are the youngest squad in the Academy, many of whom have graduated from the pre-Academy, and on Saturday they attended the game at the Kassam Stadium and were on the pitch to formally thank Polythene UK for their new sponsorship of the Academy.
Polythene have been massive supporters of the club over the last ten years and and as well as being on the back of the first team shirts this season they have kindly agreed to sponsor the Academy programme, helping the next generation of players to progress.
“It was a great day for the Under 9s,” Academy Manager Dan Harris told us. “At that age they are so enthusiastic and you watch them playing matches and you remember what it was like to play football at that age. It’s funny but they were on the pitch when Sam Long was doing his warm up and he started at exactly this age at the Academy, so he is a fantastic role model.
“The partnership with Polythene UK is really exciting for us as well. Fans know that that Polythene UK are massive supporters of the club and to have that extended through the youth system this year is great news for everyone involved.”
