PREVIEW AFC Wimbledon v Oxford United

A full guide to Saturday's game at Plough Lane

3 September 2021

Oxford United head for Plough Lane on Saturday to take on AFC Wimbledon in EFL Sky Bet League 1 (3pm)

TEAM NEWS
United are without Marcus McGuane, who will be out for a couple of weeks with a hip injury, and Gavin Whyte who is away with the Northern Ireland squad.

The U's made eleven changes for the Papa John's Trophy game at Cambridge in midweek and are likely to make a similar eleven changes as they revert to the side that has got them among the early leaders.

Herbie Kane replaces McGuane in the squad while Billy Bodin and Sam Long are set to step up their recovery next week with Long hoping to be available for the home game against Wycombe next Saturday.

See Karl Robinson previewing the game in iFollow right now where you can hear from Matty Taylor in the Preview Show.

THE OPPOSITION
Something has to give on Saturday: Wimbledon have yet to win at home, Oxford have yet to win away. The Wombles have drawn both home league games so far, against Bolton (3-3) and Gillingham (1-1).

Mark Robinson's side have yet to keep a clean sheet after five games and are currently in 15th place in the early league table with six points.

Last season's visit to Plough Lane ended in a 2-1 defeat as the home side gained revenge for three defeats at the Kassam Stadium, in the league, the Carabao Cup and the EFL Trophy.

Both Steve Seddon and Dan Agyei are former Wimbledon players

HELP A GOOD CAUSE
The Dons Local Action Group (DLAG) and AFC Wimbledon have joined forces to launch an innovative scheme to drive further food support for those suffering from food poverty in Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston.

From this Saturday’s game Plough Lane will not just be a football stadium. It will double up as a food collection point, to drive DLAG food stocks up and enable the group to provide even more help to those who need it. There will be collection points at every entrance and the main items requested are tinned: meat, vegetables, fish, fruit and pulses. If you are able to help then please do.
