U's Work with FA and Local Schools to Encourage Girls in Sport

U's staff help encourage sports participation

Oxford United were pleased to host a special event yesterday in which the club, the FA and local teachers and staff discussed way to encourage girls to get involved in sport, and football in particular.

Manager Karl Robinson, Head of Sports Science Chris Neville and Women's captain and Academy coach Lauren Haynes all spoke to the teachers and held a Q and A session with staff from all across Oxfordshire, as Karl told us

“It was a really positive meeting and I was happy to go along and discuss how we can inspire and encourage young girls to play sport and get involved. It was so interesting to hear from staff and see how things are done and how they can move forward.

"Chris has worked at the highest level including the England team and spoke really well about the health and sports science side of things and I think if any girls in Oxfordshire are looking for a role model then they don’t need to look far beyond Lauren who spoke with real passion on a subject she truly believes in.

“It was really positive and the teachers went away with tickets, scarves and packs of info which we hope can be used to encourage girls who maybe have an interest in sport and football but haven't quite taken the first step to playing as yet.”
