Oxford United could have a boost over the next couple of weeks with three players all edging closer to a return after injury.
Forwards James Henry and Elliot Lee could be available for Friday night’s televised game at home to Lincoln City while right-back Sam Long could be involved when the U’s travel to Sunderland seven days later.
“They are all doing well” boss Karl Robinson told iFollow today. ”Jamo was back out on the pitches today and we’ll just look to check he suffers no reaction but he could be available again on Friday, the same with Elliot. He was due to play last Saturday, we’d trained with him in the team and then he came to see me the day before the game and just said he felt something in his knee and we wanted to get that checked out.
“Thankfully we have got to the bottom of that and he should be back this weekend with Longy also back out there today and hopefully able to travel up to Sunderland with us next week.”
United look to bounce back after defeat at home to Blackpool on Saturday but Karl believes his team is in good shape to make up for that loss and once again start closing the gap to the teams in the play-off places:
“Saturday was a setback and we are always honest and upfront when that happens” he said. “Players understand that I will always be those things but also protective towards them. It doesnt hide the fact that we will come in, put in the hard work and do our best to put things right.
“We talk about the set pieces that cost us on Saturday and certain aspects that we have to be better at going forward. But we also talk about the recovery, the preparation and tactics required and we get ready for another game
“That defeat happened at a good time. There are eleven games to go and we are still in a positive place. The sun is shining, we trained well and we’ll be ready.”
