U's To Play Peterborough in Double Header

Double Posh day for Oxford United

22 June 2021

Oxford United’s pre-season is starting to take shape with a unique ‘double-header’ against Peterborough United the latest date to be announced.

The U’s will welcome newly-promoted Peterborough to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday 27th July for back-to-back games, kicking off at 5.45pm and 8pm. The games will be behind closed doors but the two clubs are working on a streaming service to allow fans to watch both matches.

Karl Robinson explains:

“We have had some tremendous games against Peterborough over the last few years and there is a mutual respect between the two clubs so we know they will be good games. We wanted the chance to try and look at everyone in match action, including the younger players coming through from the Academy.

“Rather than arrange that over two evenings, why not play the games back to back, allowing us to use the next day productively rather than have the squad split in two that week?

“We like to challenge ourselves and last season showed how important it is to adapt and try new ideas, so this will be a really interesting idea and we’re really looking forward to it.”

The games come after yesterday’s announcement that the U’s will kick off pre-season with a trip to Court Place Farm on Friday 16th July (7pm).

In between those two games the U’s have two further friendlies arranged behind closed doors, with a couple of games still to be announced once Covid restrictions are confirmed.
