PREVIEW Lincoln City v Oxford United

U's get set for first league game. Full preview

11 September 2020

Oxford United kick off their Sky Bet League 1 campaign with a trip to Lincoln City on Saturday.

TEAM NEWS
United have used almost the full squad in their opening games in the Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy with Jamie Hanson the only man to miss out with a calf injury which will keep him out for around three more weeks. Sean Clare limped off during Tuesday night's win over Chelsea U21s but has made a full recovery and trained yesterday ahead of the journey to Lincoln today.

See Karl Robinson previewing the game in iFollow right now where we have an exclusive with Josh Ruffels as well as a packed Preview Show featuring Derick Osei Yaw, Simon Eastwood and Jack Stevens.

THE OPPOSITION
Former U’s boss Michael Appleton has been in charge for almost a year at Sincil Bank now and believes thats that his young side can continue to progress:

“This season, if we can finish in the top half of the division, it would be progression. We then just have to try and keep progressing and getting better and better.” he said “I don’t need to say it, we all know it, we’re coming up against a side that is more than likely going to finish in the top three or four,” he said.

“They’ve added to what they had last year, even though they’ve lost [Rob] Dickie, the centre-half. They’ve got some good footballers and it will be a tough test for us. But it gives us an opportunity to see how far away we are. That’s what we need to do as a group and as a club this season. We need to know where we are.

“We’ve put a young group together. Are we capable of competing at the top end or are we mid-range? Those questions will get answered over the next few months.”
