PREVIEW Gillingham v Oxford United

A full guide to Saturday's Sky Bet League 1 game

9 October 2020

Oxford United look to make it back to back away wins in the league when they travel to Gillingham on Saturday (1pm)

A 4-1 win at Accrington got the U's moving in the league although last weekend's postponement against Crewe slowed the momentum.

TEAM NEWS
The U's welcome back Josh Ruffels after a shoulder injury and could have both Alex Gorrin and Sam Winnall available for the first time this season. The pair took part in training yesterday and travel with the squad.

United made changes for the EFL Trophy game against Bristol Rovers in midweek but Simon Eastwood, Sean Clare, Eliott Moore, Anthony Forde, James Henry and Matty Taylor are all likely to return to the starting 11.

THE OPPOSITION

Gillingham boss Steve Evans has been impressed nwith the U's so far:

“They have an outstanding squad, a very capable manager, a good football club and we will have to be at our very, very best on Saturday to get something from the game and probably our best of the season to get the three points.

“We have had a really good start to the season and everyone would acknowledge that. It would be a very, very good start if we can get something on Saturday and outstanding if we could win.

Former U's midfielder Alex MacDonald could be involved after impressing in midweek:

“He had a brilliant half-hour,” said the manager. "What you have to do is dangle in front of them that if you play well in the cup) there is a chance you could play Saturday."
