Club Statement on coronavirus

Training ground to close for a week after EFL games postponed

13 March 2020

Following the decision to suspend the EFL programme until April 3rd Oxford United would like to clarify the club’s position.

First and foremost we fully support the EFL decision and will wait to see how things are rearranged when the season reopens.

As well as the First Team game against MK Dons the under 18’s home game on Saturday against Peterborough has also been postponed. Oxford United Women’s game away at Chichester on Sunday has also been postponed.

It is important to stress that no cases have been reported in or around the club but we continue to follow expert advice and act accordingly to ensure that we are able to give all of our staff, players and families the best possible care and protection moving forward.

With that in mind the Training Ground will be closed for the next ten days and first team and academy players and staff will be asked to stay away. Heads of Department will meet again in seven days' time to discuss the situation and any new government and EFL guidelines at that time.

Operations staff will remain on site and a deep clean will take place throughout the facility.

This is not a case of ‘self-isolation’ but all players and staff have been made aware of medical protocols and if they start to show symptoms they will be asked to report to the club doctor as soon as possible

The players will now have a chance to recover from what has already been a long season but will also follow individual training programmes away from the club and be ready for a return when games are scheduled to resume after April 3rd.

Saturday’s game at home to MK Dons is the first game affected by the suspension and we have had a number of fans calling for further information on refunds. We ask fans for patience during what is an unprecedented time: ALL match tickets and bookings remain valid. As per this morning’s EFL statement  further updates are expected after the EFL Board Meeting next week and until such time no refunds will be processed.

The Manor Club’s monthly meetings have also been cancelled until September. Tickets bought for April will be valid for September.
