Robinson Ready For West Ham Test

Karl looks ahead to Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup

24 September 2019

Oxford United welcome West Ham United to the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday night looking to cause a cup upset and build on a club record 6-0 away win at Lincoln on Saturday

“It’s the same message and the same methodology whether you win 6-0 or lose a game” Karl Robinson told iFollow earlier today. “It is important to keep your feet firmly grounded. That is a sign of being professional. If you run with your emotions you will lose more than you win. We have another big game against Gillingham on Saturday but we are looking forward to this game first

“If West Ham put out a strong team then great, if not then great too: it’s nothing to do with me, it’s important that we do what we want to do. There will be six or seven changes from us and they will be players who knocked on my door and said they want the opportunity to show me why they should be in the team. Those who are playing regularly; it’s their shirts right now and now it is a case of the others trying to get those places off them

“I don’t care who it is, I expect a performance and I expect us to compete. Maybe that’s naive or whatever but there’s a reason we love the game of football. Anything can happen but if you don’t have the belief and the right approach to any game then things won’t happen.

“The fans will make it intense and there will be a great atmosphere and for a Premier League team to come to a three sided stand will be new to them and not something they know too much about. We have to jump on things like that but we aren’t going to change our style because it’s a Premier League team.

“We didn’t kick Man City last season, we tried to play a football match. We will tackle when needed but we have a philosophy here and won’t change it. We may make one or two tweaks but we can’t change our whole club philosophy for just one game. You have to stick to your standards and stick to what you believe in. That’s what we will try to do on Wednesday night.”
