Under 18s Win At City

Young U's win friendly at Court Place Farm

23 July 2019

Oxford United’s under 18s were 6-1 winners in a friendly at Court Place Farm this afternoon through four goals from Callum Crook, an own goal and a goal from a trialist in the second half

On a sweltering afternoon on the 3G there was an impressive tempo to the game from both sides and City, managed by Manor Legend Mickey Lewis, took the lead after 12 minutes from the penalty spot when keeper Damian Niemczyck was adjudged to have brought down his man.

United stuck to their guns though and winger Tyler Goodrham headed a decent chance just over before they drew level from the spot when striker Crook confidently beat the keeper.

United then took the lead on the stroke of half time when Goodrham whipped in a wicked cross which a City defender inadvertedly diverted past his own keeper.

Three minutes into the second half United had a two goal lead when Goodrham’s clipped effort was clawed away by the keeper but Crook cleverly rolled the rebound under the recovering goalie from a very tight angle for his second of the afternoon.

Five minutes later it was 4-1 when Crook completed his hat trick with a clever finish and a trialist then made it 5-1 on 65 with a powerful finish after a fantastic through ball from the influential Jack Stevens.

Crook then capped a good afternoon in the final minute, blasting a low shot beyond the keeper to cap an excellent afternoon's work all round. Credit to both sides for such a fast-paced game in those conditions and our best wishes to City for the rest of the season.
