Oxford United teams all facing big games

17 January 2019

Oxford United take on Portsmouth on Saturday in Sky Bet League 1 but the U’s are also in action in three other big matches.

First to kick off will be the under 18s who end their EFL Youth Alliance League campaign with a home game against Cheltenham Town at Abingdon United at 11am on Saturday.

The young U’s went out of the FA Youth Cup last night but have already won the league and will now go in to a wider Merit League for the second half of the season. Saturday’s game will be a chance for some of the younger players and under 16s a chance to shine and show what they can do at this level as the team start to look to the second half of the season and beyond.

Meanwhile at midday the Under 23 side is in action in the Premier League Cup when they travel to Swansea City.

Chris Allen’s side are halfway through their league with the Swans, Hull City and Wolves and kick off the second round of games against the Swans- most fans will next get a chance to see them when we welcome Hull City to Thame United’s ASM Stadium on Tuesday 12th February.

The Under 23s will again have half an eye on the future. With the first team in action there won’t be too many of the senior players available, meaning that many of the outstanding under 18 side will step up to show what they can do.

And then on Sunday it’s the Oxford United Women’s chance to impress when they return to league action for the first time in 2019 against QPR Women at Court Place Farm.

Coming off the back of a narrow defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the SSE Women’s FA Cup at the start of January, the Yellows will hope to reignite their pre-Christmas run success which saw five wins out of the last six in all competitions.

Manager Liam Gilbert:

"We're looking forward to finally getting back to league action and obviously to do so at home is a bonus. We were on a great run before Christmas, but we need to start again in some ways and get ourselves ready to put another run together in 2019."

Kick off is 2pm at Court Place Farm with entry just £5 for adults and free for U16's. If you can't make it you can always follow live updates on Twitter (@OUWFCOfficial) and Instagram!
