Oxford United Head Coach Karl Robinson has been giving his reaction to his team’s schedule after the 2018/19 fixtures were released earlier this morning.
The U's start with a trip to newly relegated Barnsley and then welcome Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town for their first home game of the new season, with the Carabao Cup home game against Coventry City three days later. United then travel to Fratton Park to play Portsmouth on 18th August before back to back home games against two more newcomers to League 1- Accrington Stanley and Burton Albion.
“I think it’s an exciting start for us” Karl said. “We kick off with three away games against former Premier League sides which will be a great experience and we know our fans will travel in numbers and get right behind us. The Fleetwood game at home will get plenty of attention, I’m sure, and we have three home league games in August which we hope will help us get off to a good positive start.
“Two home games at Christmas cuts down the travelling as well but obviously you have to play each side twice so there’s no point staring at it and working out all the possibilities. Over all though we have to be pleased with the way the fixtures look and now we can’t wait to get started again next week.”
